Game Drives, Bird Watching, & Camping
Lake Nakuru National Park, Nakuru
The park boasts of numerous wildlife animals, birds, and rich savanna grassland. Lake Nakuru National Park is classified as one of the two urban ecosystems in Kenya, the other one being the Nairobi National Park. The size of the conservancy is 18 sq.km.
The Lake Nakuru National Park is approximately 156 km away from Nairobi City and located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, it is perfect for safari Kenya vacations.

“For Savanna Ecosystems, animal and plant life are very sensitive to weather patterns. They depend on prevailing weather conditions to feed, migrate, and reproduce. Weather patterns and particularly the rains affect migratory routes of animal species; the conditions in the Lake Nakuru National Park vary from seasonal to heavy rains, to dry and very dry weather.”

As one of the “must see” national parks in Kenya, the park supports game drives, camping, and bird watching activities. You might be able to see flamingos depending on the time of the year.
Wild life animals are abundant in the park. Lions, elephants, rhinos, cheetahs, giraffes, monkeys, baboons, snakes, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs, zebras, and many other animals are in the conservancy. The best to time see the animals is early morning and late afternoon, the animals commonly avoid mid-day and early afternoon sun as it usually gets too hot. They hide or take naps during this time. 56 different mammals and 450 bird species are found in the park.

The flora and fauna in the conservancy is yet another reason why you should visit Lake Nakuru National Park. Savanna grassland is expansive across the park with bushy scrubs and yellow acacia trees breaking up the monotony. The grassland offers the perfect backdrop for most of the animals in the park. You might need binoculars to correctly identify a given animal as they seamlessly and perfectly camouflage in the grassland. Plants quickly adopt lush and vibrant green color during the rainy season. Animals and plant life is quickly renewed and revived with the onset of the rains, life in the park really thrives during this time.

Lake Nakuru is a spectacle all by itself. It is a salty water body and is home to flamingos, crocodiles and hippopotamus. As one of the geographical effects of the Great Rift Valley in East Africa, it is a long and shallow lake (1.83 m deep) and the third largest salty lakes in Kenya. Lake Nakuru has no inlets but has several outlets which prevent it from over flowing. It lies in formation with other six Rift Valley lakes that start all the way from North to the Southern part of the country. It occupies 45 sq.km. of the park.
