Kenya Masai Mara Safari

It’s one of the best places to enjoy an unrivaled wildlife safari adventure in the world. Also known as Masai Mara, it is located in Narok County in Kenya which is approximately two and a half hours from Nairobi City by road, and 45 minutes by air.

The best time for Maasai Mara safari in Kenya is late November to February, and from June to October. However, you can go on a safari any time of the year and you will be able to see the animals. The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is home to 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles, and over 400 bird species.

What Animals are found in the Masai Mara?

You can easily see the lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino, wildebeest, cheetah, leopard, giraffe, zebra, topi, hyena, ostrich, baboon, crocodile, hippopotamus, elephant, warthog, eland, bat eared fox, porcupine, eland, hare, baby bush, mongoose, warthog, aardvark, genet cat, gazelles, jackals, antelopes, impalas, duikers, hartebeest, and others.

The Maasai Mara game reserve has more than 470 bird species.

Maasai Mara Hot Air Balloon Safari

​

Hot air balloon safaris, day safari game drives, night safari drives, birding safaris, nature drive safaris  and guided foot safaris are all the ways you can enjoy the Masai Mara.

 

There are well trained and highly experienced game rangers available in the wildlife reserve to take you on your preferred safari tour. The best way to plan your hot air balloon safari is by booking your stay in safari lodge, camps, or resort which outsources the service. This way you are guaranteed of a satisfying balloon safari and they will coordinate your stay and safari trip so that your are prepared for lift of and pick up after the safari.

 

Balloon safaris are experienced early in the morning starting from 6.00 am. The one hour (usually the safari takes one hour) air safari gives a different perspective of the Maasai Mara Game reserve. It is also one of the best ways to see large  numbers of animals, the landscape and scenery in the Maasai Mara, and gives you a larger coverage than you would with a game drive.

Masai Mara Game Reserve Entry Fee
​

Park fees are paid at one of the two main gates of Maasai Mara Game Reserve. These are Sekenani Main Gate and Ololaimutia Gate.

 

Non-resident fee is $70 per day for adults and $40 per day for children for (24 hours) spent in the park and $80 for adults and $45 for children if your accommodation is outside the reserve. Your departure time from the Game reserve will depend on your arrival time.

​

Resident or Kenyans pay a fee of Ksh. 1000 per adult and Ksh. 200 per child or student.

​

Vehicle 34 seats but less than 24 – Ksh. 3,000

Truck

Truck 1-3 ton – Ksh. 700

Truck 4-7 ton – Ksh. 2,500

Truck 8 ton and above – Ksh. 3,500

The Mara Serena and Kichwa Tembo all-weather airstrips service the Masai Mara Game reserve, charges are shown below.

Aircraft with less than 3 seats – Ksh. 300

Aircraft 3 seats but less than 6 seats – Ksh. 500

Aircraft 7 seats but less than 14 seats – Ksh. 1000

Aircraft 15 seats but less than 20 seats – Ksh. 2000

Aircraft 21 seats and above – Ksh. 3000

 

Hot Air Balloon Safari

Landing fee per person per landing – US$ 50
